shoe per diem nov 26, 2010 – yarn galore

30 Nov

For various reasons I hadn’t been visiting my favourite yarn shop for a very long time (months!) when I sat foot (wearing the red El Naturalista Iggdrasil tall boots) there on Friday. I fear I might have gone a tad overboard with yarn investing (but it’s for a good handmade cause and far from superficial consumerism. I tell myself). It was de-lovely…

The day was rounded off with afternoon tea at one of my favourite places for that in Stockholm, Ester’s.

This post was brought to you for the love of yarn, afternoon tea and of course, red boots.

SCORE for summer!

30 Nov

Went to the second-hand store today, I love searching through and finding books. None of them had prices so I grabbed all the ones I wanted and took them up to the counter…

… $5… for the lot! There are all my favourite authors in there… Margaret Atwood, Toni Morrison, Bryce Courtney, Kapka Kassabova, a couple of hardcovers and some randoms! I am well excited about embarking on these books!

(Except I am moving house this weekend, and am supposed to be getting rid of stuff… oh well!)

Bestest Sunday Ever

30 Nov

Vera already wrote about our lovely Sunday afternoon, and here are the pictures. It was such a great day that if it was a date she would have been able to have her wicked way with me later on!

My tootsies on the top of the mountain, while eating takeaway and drinking beer:

Vera’s peids:

Group shot!

Now we are going running up the mountain in about an hour. No curry or beer waiting for us today. Grumpyface.

29 November 2010 // back to real life…

After four weeks of holiday awesomeness, it was time to go back to work (totally against my will!). At least I was matching, something that doesn’t always happen.

28 November 2010 // lava!

29 Nov

sunday started bright and early, catching the 7:30 ferry to rangitoto island (the youngest volcano in nz). we spent the morning there and walked all the way to the top, around the crater, as well as doing bits of other tracks. we thought we’d walked about 7km but after mapping it at home, it was actually close to 10km.

in the afternoon, after a glorious nap, i met up with the lovely stacey and we turned our sunday into one of the best days ever… the sun was shining so we headed to the beach and ran 10km by the beach, finishing with a walk back to the car with our feet in the water and topping it all up with takeaway curry for dinner, sitting at the top of mount eden watching the sun go down. bliss!

29 Nov

After working hard all weekend Sunday afternoon was spent looking after my friends Phil & Shan’s gorgeous girls. We hung out on Lyall Bay, played in the sea, and had a hot choccy at Maranui cafe. Funnily enough most of the hot chocolate ended up on the table, but they’re so cute I don’t  mind 😀

26 November 2010 // *waves hello*

27 Nov

stacey and i had a much overdue catch up last night. we sat on her bed for hours with a bottle of wine (one that was bought to help the victims of the christchurch earthquake so, really, we were drinking for a good cause). excuse the blurriness but we wanted to wave hello to you all so didn’t use the flash so you could see us on the window. Hello!

tales from the north

27 Nov

roadtrip season has sadly come to an end. after touring the south island, we finished up with some mandatory stops up north.

we went to the top of the sky tower and stood on the glass floor.

we went to paihia and russell (where i saw this cool mosaic at a top of a lookout).

and we even saw dolphins (no shoe in the photo but dolphins are cute so i’m including it anyway!)

we also drove all the way up to the very top of the country, to the Far North.

Where we saw the tasman ocean meet the pacific ocean and looked at how far away from home we were.

on the drive back, we came across the jandal fence. i mean, seriously, what better shoe per diem material than a whole fence full of jandals?

Now back to real life. Sadface.

party prep

27 Nov

Preparing (and sampling) for one of my best friend’s 30th birthday party at my house tomorrow. I’m pretty excited, not only is this the first party at my new house, but MOST of my girlfriends and their husbands are going to be coming. It’s been a long time since we’ve all been together (that wasn’t at a wedding where it’s too hard to have quality time). And the best (and funniest part)…the party starts at 7 p.m. sharp, but most of the guests are coming early so we can get some quality time. So pretty much everyone is going to show up way before 7 p.m. I guess I better start getting things around early.

Cheers!

My catchup post

24 Nov

Have been away. From it all. And by it I mean not only good coffee, but the internet too. Don’t hate me, but here is what I have been doing:

So I went to the Kingdom of Tonga for one week. It’s only a three hour flight from NZ, but is a whole world away. The first four nights I stayed in a cheap, but very fun hostel in town, and from there I did the touristy things like tours and the such:

Went on a day trip to a couple of reefs in the ocean to go snorkeling on, and finished up on an island (Pangimotu), which I went back to the next day to lie on:

After I had had enough of tripping around I booked into an awesome place right on the beach where I had my own fale complete with bathroom, porch… and hammock. My next three days went something like this:

Lie in hammock and read

Snooze.

Go for a swim:

Go back to reading in the hammock.

Go for a walk to the shops to buy some snacks:

Go back to the hammock.

Go for a swim.

Go back to the hammock for a nap.

Read book. Finish book in one day. Start next book:

Go for a swim.

Find coconuts to take pictures of so I can walk along the beach singing “I’ve got a lovely pair of coconuts”. Then remember that the song actually goes on about a lovely pair of rollerskates, but Mah. There is no-one around to correct me so I’ll sing what I want.

Then realise that you may slowly be going mad from lack of human contact. Then realise if that is so you could go mad for a couple more days thank you very much. Then realise that you have to come home.

Go back to the hammock and have a nap because it is an exhausting life you lead.

Come home.

Sad face.

PS: I caught up with all your postings, they look awesome. Luci: Hatepe has been my special spot forever, but you can share it too. Vera, those photos look friggen a.m.a.z.i.n.g. Your parents must have been loving it! Em: You know Tequila is never anybody’s friend. I do like what you did with your hair though. And you’d never catch me in that scary thing. I’d be the one that peed her pants and had to be taken out early. Oh wait. You didn’t did you? Julie: I have been dreaming of a pedicure the whole time I have been away and those white booties tipped me over the edge! Megan: I say if you wanna twirl, twirl! Sometimes I sing really loudly and do wheelchair dancing down the hall of my office just couse. You gotta do what you gotta do. Barbara: so many cool flats! Peace out peeps.

ALL THE SINGLE LADIES all the single ladies ALL THE SINGLE LADIES all the single ladies…ooh oh oh oooh oh oh oh oh ohhh oh oh oh oh oh ohhh.

21 Nov

my good friend Dani’s hens night was last night. 80’s theme…oooh yeah!

and we had drinks with the compulsory bride challenges along the way…somehow this involved me doing tequila shots…???

then we went to monsoon asia restaurant and i actually managed to get a shoe photo…along with a few penis’ and vibrators thrown in for good measure…(excuse the pun)

and then we went out to the ‘trees of terror’ in sanson…I made it 1/8 of the way before I was held against a wall by a  dude with a chainsaw (real with the chain taken off…gah!) and to be escorted the rest of the way out…if you think I’m a wuss I challenge you to do it if you’re ever in the neighbourhood…but even the escort (a.k.a monster face burn victim) was playing tricks on me so I still screamed the pace down. i think in the future the LABYRINTH might be my limitation…this is a bunny that was at the beginning…he was chained up and very jumpy…but was kind enough to pose for a picture for me 🙂

then we went on to town and found some dj’s that would play our songs…and proceeded to dance the night away…in my shoes. (i don’t need to share the pics from this portion of the evening!!)

november shoe per diem catch up

19 Nov

boy oh boy… so this is what two weeks without internet feel like. i have so many of your lovely ladies’ SPD posts to go through and I will do so as soon as I get a chance. I’ve had a peak at what’s been up with you all anyway and hope i can leave some comments sometime soon on your posts. anyway, november has been a busy month… an entire month of no work but way busier than work (the good kind of busy!) and it’ll continue being so. i thought i’d update you on what’s been going on anyway so here’s a bit of a summary.

the first week included fishing in lake taupo. boats scare me and it’s incredible how many times i’ve been on boats this month already considered how much i hate them but this fishing trip was really fun!

I then got to catch up with the lovely stacey and enjoy the amazing view of the city lights from the comfort of her lounge, over wine and chocolates. bliss!

the next day, it was off to the south island for a crazy 11 days of fun and adventures! me, the parents and the boy flew down to christchurch and started a roadtrip that ended nearly 4000km later.

We kept stopping for amazing views like this and ended up with over 1000 photos to sort through (ah, the joys of digital cameras).

Among other things, we visited glaciers and beautiful lakes.

and i got to visit lake tekapo again, truly one of my favourite places on earth.

and this is a great time of the year to visit the lake too, as the lupins are in full bloom and add such a great splash of colour to the whole landscape!

Three out of the four people in this roadtrip are mega coffee addicts so there were lots of caffeine stops, most of them in amazing locations like the one below, at the top of mount john (one of the best places in the world to watch the stars, or so the experts say). we didn’t see the stars, as we visited during the day, but we did have a nice coffee with amazing views!

Not long after, I was on yet another boat, this time in milford sound. i’m not even going to try to describe how absolutely stunning that place is. so stunning i didn’t mind the boat trip at all!

Not long after, we were at the bottom end of the island and starting to make our way up, after many days driving south.

And we finished with a visit to lyttelton, a little town just outside christchurch, on our last day.

another roadtrip starting in a couple of days so stay tuned!

shoe per diem nov 14, 2010 – on father’s day

15 Nov

shoe per diem nov 14, 2010, originally uploaded by piaktw.

On Sunday there was Father’s Day in Sweden. I don’t do commercial hullabaloo days like that per se, but we had a simple coffee and cake (the Swedish fika that is) with the in-laws.

And just because the ground is almost void of snow again now I decided to opt for shoes instead of boots. Malte (the loaf dog extraordinaire) and me wearing El Naturalista Tesela Miduna oxfords in winered. With grey cable needle lace socks from one of those innumerous Swedish chain stores I rarely frequent (for many reasons), Lindex. Though once in a blue moon one might find socks that works for a reasonable there.

On a very glum winter day – what was left of Tuesday’s snowstorm had turned into dirty slush, the sky was like an overwhelming wet, grey blanket, it was draining, I felt exhausted – we spend a seemingly unproportionately large amount of time driving around in car.

One, of few, fine things on that day was the pleasing fact that car and boots matched so very well. Red makes me happy. Red boots in red car.

Bus tricks

14 Nov

No matter what time I get on the bus, these the same ajumma and ajoshe (grandma and grandpa) always get on my bus, and off a couple of stops later. I reckon they just ride the bus around all day, because I usually see them on the way home too. They are so cute, and are like a matching pair of dolls. They always sit in the same seats, the two up the front, the man on the right, the woman on the left. BUT today, there was another lady sitting in the left hand side seat, she got a dirty look then they both sat on the right.

shoe per diem, nov 11, 2010 – floating

12 Nov

Yesterday I did my first session of floating. Admittedly I have to say I found this floatation thing rather boring and not nearly as relaxing as it’s claimed to be. Although skin became really soft due to all the salt. And then, according to the sleep cycle iPhone app I was in deep sleep for longer lasting periods during last night than I have been in a very very very long time. So maybe I’ll try another floating session anyway…

(Before and after I hit the tank I wore Noa Noa socks and El Naturalista boots. Oh, in some aspects I’m so silly predictable…)

shoe per diem nov 10, 2010 – after the snowstorm

shoe per diem nov 10, 2010, originally uploaded by piaktw.

Due to problems with the public transportation system – everyone but the different Swedish public transportations companies know and understand that in Sweden the weather changes with the four seasons. And yes, from October to March it may snow. A lot at times – I worked at home on Wednesday.

These gorgeous drop-fruit apples from a neighbours had to be caught on picture before they end up in an apple pie. In snow, in garden and I was wearing an old trusted pair of cheap (but really, compared to the rather pricey pairs I’ve invested in so very comfy) green wellies.

shoe per diem nov 9, 2010 – meet molly

10 Nov

On the day of inaugurating the red boots I met the most fantastic office perk. The kind that totally melt one’s heart makes one wish one could spend the days sitting on the floor playing silly fetch-games, cuddle and most willingly act as a dog bed. Meet Molly. Mixed breed, 11 weeks old, smaller than a size 41 red boot. Next to my own loaf dog extraordinaire, of course, she must be the cutest dog ever. Too cute for her own good.

So on a day with this season’s first snow storm – poor first day for red boots – I at least had the cutest of meets.

Tall boots (Santa Claus red as we call this particular red hue in Sweden) El Naturalista (surprise) Iggdrasil. Them in profile here.

(Tights; what could have been a really lovely leaf lacy brown pair from the Swedish department store-chain Ã…hléns, but unfortunately turned out to be yet another of the innumerous ones with too short legs. I’m so, so sick and tired of this so from now on, no more tights shopping! There’ll be only old reliable tights, leggings and socks on these legs and feet from now on.)

Star-spangled rice goodness

Caught up with two friends I only get to see about twice a year because of our combined crazy lives on Monday night for dinner at this great Thai place I love. Three hours later, gobbling food, wine and words like chickens, we were finished, only because the restaurant closed.

hot-hot or hot-hot?

today has been stinky hot. I’m talking sticky-tar-day hot. the kind of hot you can hear the sizzle when you step on stones…the kind of weather when the colder the water the better. which is exactly what my girls are doing. they have playing so nicely with their dolls for AAAGES out there…and as you can see ‘playing’ means feeding them stones and drowning them…whatever is it.they are happy and not whingeing. which makes me happy and not whinge too!emma kate

6th Nov = exhaustion central

6 Nov

I managed to get hardly any sleep on Friday night: bed at midnight, waking up at 2am then not going back to sleep until 3.30, then up again at 6am. Yuck. I was completely exhausted Satuday so decided all I was fit for was copious cups of tea, choccy, and a sneaky wine or two (or 3) in front of the telly. It’s absolutely freezing so we have the fire going and I’m back in the trusty uggs. In November. Wrong on so many levels.

shoe per diem november 5, 2010 – winter lakeside

6 Nov

shoe per diem nov 5, 2010, originally uploaded by piaktw.

It was a lovely crisp, sunny winter day. We had a little drive around nearby parts of suburbian Stockholm I’ve never bothered to explore before. They were beautiful, tad bit eerie and VERY rural. The view of a glassy calm lake was quite a sights for sore eyes.

After that we headed to a favourite cafe Tant Gredelin (Auntie Purple, named after the famous Swedish children books by Elsa Beskow) were we enjoyed afternoon tea. Which was far from the best I’ve had, but a lovely thing to kick off the weekend just the same.

All while wearing the El Naturalista olive green (or prado – musgo as the hues apparently are called) Iggdrasil swirl boots. Socks – which are perky, but very much orange and not pink irl. With purple and not red dots – from Noa Noa. (Clearly a gal can’t have too many Noa Noa socks.)

Halloween fun

1 Nov

I was a Flamenco dancer for Halloween.  He was a matador.  He chose his first and then I decided on mine to sort of complement his.  They worked quite nicely.  🙂  My boots were killing me by about half way through the night so I had to take them off.  I wasn’t the only one with sore feet.

He wanted to rub my feet but as they’d been in the boots all evening I thought it wasn’t such a great idea.  He said he didn’t care and did this to prove it.
