shoe per diem sept 11, 2010 – petrolia & me

Had a brilliant last-day-of-toy-car-season outing in one of my favourite provinces of Sweden, Bergslagen. The day included pretty nature and architecture in cute village Ängelsberg (Angel’s Mountain) with its quirky sculpture park, nice café Englaro, a UNESCO World Heritage Site Engelsberg Ironworks and great dinner at one favourite summer place to go, Måns Ols Utvärdshus (Outside Inn).

Plus this. On my way to the world’s oldest preserved oil refinery with the ferry Petrolia. The refinery is quite unexpected situated on one small island, Oljeön (Oil Island), in a deep lake in the middle of the Swedish Bergslagen woods. Where we had a nice walk and heard an interesting story told by one of those enthusiastic but oh so boring yawn-inspiring guides. On our way back from the island to main land we had an incident, engine conkout and we had to row ashore – I was not one of the rowing kind, I was a giggling nervously kind as I do so utterly hate incidents when being on floating things above deep deep waters.

I’m sure wearing one favourite pair of shoes helped keeping me reasonably calm while in this precarious situation though; purple El Naturalista Iggdrasil swirl Oxfords.

Extra treat of the last-day-of-toy-car-season day – I met a beaver. We had a nice chat and I really wouldn’t mind keeping her/his as one friendly pet.
