You see, I made this pact with myself that I wouldn’t buy any new shoes until I had worn all the pairs I already owned at least once. This means that, every time I buy a pair of shoes, I have to wait until I’ve worn those before buying another new pair. If you’re reading this and thinking that it’s not a hard promise to keep, then you’re clearly not as addicted as I am (and I am a little bit jealous of you for that).
So anyway, I wore this pair of new shoes for the first time yesterday which brings my count of “shoes that I own but have never experienced life outside their cute shoe boxes” down to zero. We all know what that means…
I’d normally be plotting my next shoe shopping trip right about now but I am off to Australia for a week of roadtripping and not much else so all shoe acquisitions will be put on hold over Easter. My jandals are packed up and I’m pretty much ready to go get some shoe per diem photos somewhere along the Sydney – Melbourne route. Yay!

It started out as such a nice day. When the sun was out it was warm(ish). I headed to Apgujeong to watch the LOKO boys’ match. I’ve known the Lokomotiv Goyang team in part since 2003. They play in one of the men’s foreigner leagues in Seoul and area.
When the sun went down it got very chilly. And then they lost. 😦 Oh well. Better luck next time, boys.
This was after the actual game when they decided to do a little practice (punishment for losing?).
I also watched a match yesterday, only it was Moroccan guys playing against a Korean team. It was even colder sitting watching that one!! I did take pics for the guys but forgot to take one for here.
I think I was concentrating too much on not shaking the camera to bits with all my shivering.

a beautiful night wedding in the esplanade in good old palmerston north! it was my highschool sweetheart getting married to his gorgeous girlie ,i even got a special mention in his speech! how many ex girlfriends can claim that! there were no feet photos at this stage of the evening as the wine was a’ flowing and i would have face-planted in the process.
a rainy saturday brought out the skullie wellies out of their winter hibernation.

I don’t like to wear my heels while driving…the heels get ruinned walking through the stone driveway to my car AND then the back of the heels become worn from rubbing on the floor while I drive. I just figured this out not too long ago and have been wearing flip-flops (or jandals, as they’re known elsewhere in the world) to the car and while driving. I haven’t forgotten my work shoes yet, but it’s bound to happen sooner or later. Please forgive my rough-looking feet! I’ve been waiting for my toenails to grow back (I lost a few from training for my marathon last fall) to get a pedicure…now if I could just find the time.
just sittin’ at the hairdresser in my purple el naturalistas + rockin’ plaid socks from H&M.
and the fuzziness continues thanks to those new contacts. do you think i should give them up?

I was running a little late this morning. I woke up at 9, the time I should have been LEAVING my home. In my rush I somehow forgot to put on socks. :S
I did, however, remember to take a picture on my way home from work. This is a not so packed Seoul bus. The 143 usually gets a lot busier a stop later where there is a big middle school. It’s also busier an hour later. I’m so glad it’s not one of the super packed bus routes that you can never ever get a seat on.

A very late dinner that included my favourite kiwi drink: L&P!
yellow chucks amongst the yellow buttercups.
and i’m wearing my new contacts again, can you tell? nice that this turned out exactly how i see at the moment!! arrgh!

i forgot to take a more normal shot of the shoes/tights combo today, so i was forced to improvise while driving along in the car. not something i recommend, i’ll admit. i must have appeared to have been drinking the way i was swerving all over the road.
but i love the wolford tights. i have a rather shockingly large collection of them. they’re the best.

outside tonight it is persisting down…
but inside it’s all cosy and warm (…not really a need for a fire but i couldn’t help myself!) as well as a roast in the oven….ahhhhhhh the first of many!
after an afternoon of looking after my friends 3 kids (making the total one 4 year old, one 3 year old, one two year old and two 1 year olds!) i plan to sit in front of that fire watching trash tele, eating something awfully good!

Last night I went along to another fabulous Wellington Tweetup. Wow so many different feets to admire! I especially love how the gorgeous @MsConstantine wears skirts and dresses with comfortable but funky lace-ups and it works! I would probably look stupid but she always looks awesome (p.s. great tights Kim!)

My super-stylish friend Peter called me last week to see if I would go to a local theatre to listen to a play reading. Without knowing exactly what a “play reading” entailed, but loving the thought of doing something so chic and urban with Peter, I agreed. I decided to wear a simple, black wrap-dress, sassy red heels and a ethnic-looking printed scarf that, in reality, came from Target. The play, a thriller called “The List” by Kyle Jarrow, was fantastic. I may or may not have grabbed Peter’s arm a few times because I was a bit nervous for the characters; I laughed, and I laughed some more. The dialogue was witty and real and refreshing. And my shoes were perfect.

In my part of the world spring is threatening to arrive. Coincidentally, in my part of the world, it will probably snow a couple of more times before summer is here to stay. (Thus is the nature of a Rocky Mountain “spring”.) But this weekend is was warm enough to go for a motorcycle ride with my brand new helmet. Note: I do not pilot motorcycles, but I love riding on the back of The Boy’s big BMW bike and am currently in the market for a fabulous motorcycle jacket. I’m thinking this one (in pink, obviously) or this one. Thoughts?
I drive a scooter and up until yesterday I wore a friend’s snowboarding helmet that looked like a brain. People on the street loved it, but it wasn’t the safest of things. Yesterday I got the mother of all helmets, which even has a visor so I don’t have to wear my sunglasses at nighttime and may actually be able to see where I am going in the rain…
REVISION FOR HEIDI: Here they are in proper. I also love them:

it’s a bit blurry because i’m trying out some new contacts that just aren’t working for me. but i continue to love the hipstamatic iPhone app. and the fact that i could wear my el naturalistas today instead of boots!
oh, and happy birthday to me. 🙂
now the snow has melted and it’s muddy, muddy, muddy, but look, i’m actually casting a shadow, which is a big improvement. 🙂
I went to a friend’s house for a dinner party last night. I made cucumber sandwiches. A quick-to-make appetizer, but always a hit.
my friend and her husband brought my man and i tickets to the pohangina tea party at the pohangina valley estate vineyard as a suprise outing for my birthday 🙂 we drank red wine, listened to jazz and met some pretty interesting people! it was a fabulous afternoon, topped off by a quick visit to the waterford ( an irish pub in the middle of nowhere!) that was still celebrating st.paddys day…bagpipers and all.
and yes…i do have other photos of people riding/kissing/humping the goat…
Pōhutukawa (or Metrosideros excelsa, as I have just found out) flowers are really pretty, in their weird kind of way and the trees get really beautiful when they get covered in those flowers. This is the one in my, ahem, garden (calling it a garden, at the moment, is a bit of a stretch but we’ll get there!). I don’t know if Kiwis realise but pōhutukawa is a fun word for foreigners to pronounce. Pōhutukawa. Pōhutukawa. See? Fun.
Yes it is!

it’s amazing what gainful employment will do for your choice of shoes.
my eldest daughter attends montessori in the mornings and tomorrow is ‘international day’ so she is going as a wee french girl…wearing a berret (sp?!?) a red neck scarf and a beauty spot! she has to take a plate of her country…and as i refuse to make pastries at 10pm…cookies shapes like snails it is! (with dark chocolate swirls!!)
sorry no feet…contorting my body to fit them in was just not going to happen tonight!

Luci mentioned it this morning, just after I’d read an email from a friend about it. I’ve wasted – I mean, spent – a good part of my evening pretending to be a shoe designer. Shame they are quite pricey, though… wouldn’t mind having a pair of orginal paudecanela’s!
right… time to go do something more productive. Like, um… sleep.

my two wee girls have new matching gumboots…i don’t usually dress them the same, but i had to get identical ones as so no squabbling!
papa bear is at band prac (a.k.a drinking beer with the boys) tonight so i have a glass of wine, chocolate and the remote waiting for me on the couch with a comfy blanket…wooooot!
At my running partners house again…as well as in my running shoes again. Sorry to say, but as pre-training for my marathon draws near, you’re going to be seeing a lot of them.
There are just too many wonderful finds at her house.
And don’t even get me started on the metal sculptures in her yard.
Oh I love this sculpture so much I have to post another picture from a different angle.
Today I went looking for a singlet I wanted to wear for St. Paddy’s Day celebrations and it turned into one of those complete clean out of the wardrobe thingees. Two hours later and I have to do some work for a client and it is still half finished…. And I have to go out soon after, but you know that feeling when it’s only half done??? Also have reconvened with all my winter jackets and hung them up. And my winter pj’s. Oh how I love them so.
(Sorry bout the blurry photo)

because sometimes your shoe of the day is the one you wish you were wearing…
I had to share this… it’s amazing…. I think I’m in love!
Shoes of Prey creates beautiful bespoke women’s shoes, designed online by you.
You choose the heel, toe, fabric, colour and embellishments. Our expert craftsmen then make your shoes to measure, swaddle them in a soft dust bag and crisp new box, and ship them straight to your waiting feet.
As much as I would never admit this in front of her, meeting up with Stacey for a glass of wine after work was the highlight of my day. It wasn’t that hard anyway since the day started with an x-ray and blood tests (i HATE blood tests, hate them!), followed by hours of work inside the office. So nothing that exciting really, except for the super sweet colleague who bought me a bag of lollies and a bag of mini chocolate easter eggs because she knew how much i had been dreading the blood tests (there are some really nice people out there!).
the second photo is just because i really like the detail on the side of these shoes. also, this was their first outing. i thought a day when i get poked with needles and suffer blood loss (yes, i’m a drama queen with everything involving blood and needles) is the day to wear a new pair of shoes.

i have had a ‘feel-good’ day today. spent most of it in the vege garden with my wee girls. we harvested a whole lotta big juicy ‘beefsteak’ tomatoes…and tonight i am making homemade tomato ketchup (‘red sauce’ to us kiwis). WHICH might i add is amusing because those who know me well know i DISPISE tomato sauce…but my kids love it.
Saw the lovely Vera again today and we decided to brave the cold outside and have one more weeks worth of drinks in the fresh air. Sad part is we are both in tights and jackets and oh look it’s another appearance of the boots. (Actually these ones are different to the last ones. I like the style alright?)

On Monday afternoons, after work, there’s nothing I want more than to go home and relax and get myself ready for the week. Apparently, my friend Alison (Say hi to Alison, peeps, she sometimes visits us here) disagrees and decided that the best thing after a Monday of work would be to drag me to Snowplanet for some indoor skiing (since the ski season is still a few months away).
It was only my second time skiing ever but I’m determined to make 2010 my skiing year – I’m even going to lose my love for money and buy a season pass so I really have to force myself to do it. It took me 25 years but I finally found a reason to enjoy winter.

P.s. The awesome white ski boots are Alison’s and now I want some cute ski boots too.
83possums : Busy day today and managed to knock a few things off my 2010 To Do list but I’ll fill you in on that tomorrow. Suffice to say I’m getting my life back on track. Went for a walk after work today along the waterfront and snapped this pic next to a lovely statue that sits near Te Papa (the museum). It was beautiful and sunny and a great way to end today. This is the full version of the sculpture83possums
I went running in the rain today. It actually wasn’t that bad as it was only sprinkling and stopped half way into the run. I’ve weathered much worse.
My running partner’s husband is a metal sculptor and had these wonderful birds out and about. He’s going to attach them to trellises he’s making.
purple bumpers + riding crop + iPhone hipstamatic app = fun!
Today was my parent’s 28th wedding anniversary! And I celebrated by going out and getting boozed! It was great fun though. You can just about see my shoes in this one, but this was the best of the bunch because by the time I remembered to take a picture I’d had a few. PS don’t you just love the 70’s champagne glasses?!

It was anniversary day for me and my boy today and, as a bit of a last minute change of plans, we decided to skip the fancy restaurant idea and head to the auckland fish market instead for an early dinner of fresh fish. Summer is nearly finished here so we figured we might as well enjoy as much of it as we can before it slips to the other hemisphere.

First appearance of the boots. And the bus because it was too windy and nasty to ride my scooter into town.
On a brighter note, but is it just me, or are bus drivers in Auckland really friendly? Whenever you get off they say “goodbye”, and if they don’t then you say “thanks” and they say “goodbye” then. It’s just all so lovely.

waiting in the glasses store today while husband got new glasses. they’ve got a lot of mirrors in that place.
i’m afraid the purple furry boot season continues but soon it will be muddy and wet enough out there with all that melted snow that i’ll go over to the wellies. i hope.
dani and i went to visit our friend cindy who had just moved into her new house today! it’s in a little village called Kopane out in the whop-whops (…out in the country) it’s on a MASSIVE section and she’s getting a billy goat for her birthday 🙂
and my daughter Honor ‘helped’ out too, i mean look at the perfectly mowed……deck.

I took Hopie for another walk up in the Namsan park. We followed mostly the same path as the other night. I wanted to see what it looked like when I could actually see everything!!
Spring is coming!!!! I know because there were frog and salamander eggs in the little water pools along some of the pathways. And green is starting to pop up from under the dead brown stuff. Yay!!
No, there are no pics of the eggs with my feet in them. 😛

I’m a procrastinator. I’ve put off finding a dress for a friend’s wedding coming up in two weeks. As a result I spent my lunch break trying on dresses. I haven’t even found the dress yet, which means I can’t start shoe shopping. YIKES!!!
Here’s a picture from the dressing room, courtesy of my iPhone.

It is beautifully warm and sunny here today, with promises of an enormous snowstorm tomorrow. Some people hunker down for the blizzard, and I skip about in cheery, yellow suede heels with a charming bow. I’ll wear proper “cold weather” shoes tomorrow, but today? It’s pure sunshine.

The Shoes: Red patent leather pointy-toe heels with a serious 1980’s vibe.
The Dessert: Deep-fried cheesecake with raspberry and caramel-pecan sauce. Oh. My. Gaaaash! that stuff is delicious!
The Conclusion: Love, for both.
I’m at home today because my son had a stomach bug last night. He’s fine today, but still a little tired. We went to the local store to get a few things. While the store is no longer owned by the Amish, they still get quite a few things from them, such as bread and spices.
Oh and it’s 63F/17C so I was able to wear my flip flops for the first time this year!!!
After work today I took Hopi for a walk up Namsan (Seoul Tower is on top). The park has pathways winding up and everywhere. The entire time we were in the park we didn’t see anyone. Maybe because it was already dark, it was a bit cold, and it was quite muddy.
A sort of a little stream coming down the mountain. When I sat down, Hopi was quite interested in the snow on my shoe.
Hopi is funny around snow. He’ll jump and then seems to think that the snow that is kicked up is alive and needs to be caught. He’ll jump, see a little bit of snow bounce up, stare it down and then pounce at it. At one point he was literally doing flips all around me, trying to catch the little bits of snow that were dancing around each time he jumped. It’s possibly a never ending cycle.
Too bad it was too dark to take a video.

These things are awesome! Take a glass of milk (ew yuck, I HATE milk!) open the straw and place in the glass of milk. Suck and ta-da! Strawberry milk. MMmm-mmm. If they make me drink milk they must be good!
And yes I used my awesome photoshop skills to put my foot in. Logistically it just didn’t work any other way 🙂

Since I had my laptop stolen after my last post it has taken me a while to play catch up! So here you go….
Wednesday 3rd – the day we got robbed. Lucky it was a pretty sky and no-one was hurt.
Thursday 4th – first (and only) night back at my real house since the big break from FMF, made a bit better as my gorgeous new audrey kawasaki print arrived!
Friday 5th – up in Auckland for work; followed by Fat Freddy’s Drop with the lovely Miss Hamilton at AUT. First time debuting the comfy cowboy boots too!
Saturday 6th – Hanging out in Auckland on the beach, happy days!
Sunday 7th – In Albert Park with Miss Childs, Miss Hamilton and Mr Loose. Definitely Sunday, not Monday, even if the socks disagree 🙂
Tuesday 9th – Went for a big walk with my little blister through the Botanical Gardens and managed to sleep for a full 8 hours without being drunk or needing sleeping pills – first time in 4 weeks, pretty epic!
Thursday 11th – Was supposed to be going for another walk tonight with a friend, but it started raining so we went to great little cocktail bar called Hooch and tried their special spiced rum instead- just what the doctor ordered!
83possums…out!
I’m still wondering whether I’ll ever be able to wear skirts and shorts ever again. My legs are still covered in cuts and bruises but at least now the nail polish kind of matches it. And nothing like a glass of wine and a good chat to forget about how hard it is to learn things other people learnt when they were fearless kids.
I caught up with the lovely Stacey last night after work. I fear our days of being able to sit outside a bar after work are close to ending, as Autumn fast approaches. Good news for all of you wanting to put your warm boots away, I guess.

Caught up with the lovely Vera last night, inspected her cuts from learning to ride a bike. Get this, she got the cuts not from falling off, but from jumping off because she didn’t know how to stop. Now I ask you Vera, how many cyclists do you see dismounting their bikes at the lights? Hm? Hm? Hm? THEY’RE CALLED BRAKES!!!! But well done my 26 year old friend for learning to ride a bicycle. Makes me proud. Now if you could just learn how to stop…

This week I went skiing for the first time in my entire life. Now, that may not seem like a huge accomplishment to some of you who live in tropical or flat locations. But for me? A native of Salt Lake City, host of the 2002 Winter Olympics and home to The Greatest Snow On Earth (our state slogan for decades)…it’s kind of embarassing. So, this week, I went skiing for the first time. And it wasn’t terrible. But I am still crazy sore, for the full story click here.
Not the best shoe choice after doing an hour of plyometrics the night before. My sore legs were barely able to carry me home in these. I had to do a few stretches involving the potted plant in the hallway of my office building.

Someone told me that today is National Barbie Day in the United States. I don’t know if I believe that or not, but why not wear hot pink snakeskin heels to celebrate? (Other wearings of note include seeing “Legally Blonde: The Musical” in San Francisco.)
This isn’t where I am, but rather where I wish I could be right now.
It’s cold and snowing in Seoul (AGAIN!).
When I got on the subway to come home it was raining. When I came out it was snowing. Now it is snowing a lot. I will have to get up early tomorrow morning as walking Hopi won’t be as simple (I live on a rather big hill) and getting to work will take more time.
Rain + snow + cold = … not a nice combination.
Oh. I took the picture when I was in Vietnam summer 2008. I want to go back. Or, well, anywhere that is nice and warm.

the end is near for all that snow (and the purple boots) for this year.
Yesterday I spent the day hanging out with a couple of friends downtown Seoul. Lunch, Kyobo Bookstore and Deoksugung (덕수궁/Deoksu Palace), one of the smaller palaces in Seoul. This is the Daehanmun (Daehan Gate), the main entrance to the palace area. Unfortunately the Seoul Museum of Art was closed. The main exhibit there right now is Andy Warhol. Maybe later this week…
Then I ended up going all the way up to Dongducheon (very far to the north of seoul) to hang out, eat pizza and watch movies. I’m a tad tired today since I had to get up at 5:30 to catch the subway home to make it to work on time, but it was definitely worth it.

So on Sunday, probably because I didn’t think walking the 19km of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing wasn’t quite enough to make it an adventurous weekend, I rode a bike in Turangi. And you might be all like “yeah, riding a bike… that’s not too hard. Been doing that since I was five…” but, here’s the thing
(and try not to laugh now)
I had NEVER EVER EVER ridden a bike in my entire life. And I learnt in one afternoon! *pats herself on the back*
I know it sounds silly to most adults who have been doing it since they were kids but it was a really awesome feeling and I’m all proud and stuff. According to my teachers and bike riding mates (boyfriend and boyfriend’s parents), I did really well for a first attempt. Now I just need to practise more! Yay me!
paudecanela
To be totally honest, I still can’t believe I managed to survive the Tongariro Alpine Crossing considering I had busted my knee the day before (that’s just my luck…), had zero preparation for it (hadn’t gone on any hikes for months) and the weather conditions were not the best (they weren’t kidding when they predicted gale). So I’m really proud of having walked up, down and around that damn mountain for a grand total of 19km and having left mostly unharmed. I’m quite proud of it but now, come to think of it, my pride really is the only think that came out unharmed…
p.s. walking poles are the best invention ever.
paudecanela
A photo just wouldn’t have done this justice.
Hopi is quite a handful when he’s awake. Like anything/one (animal or child or even man, for that matter) it doesn’t matter what they do in the day, they’re always sweet when they sleep. Except of course when he wakes up in the middle of the night to bark at the neighbors that are always out late.
Jindo dogs are actually quite interesting.
I’ve been reading a bit about them. There are many variations on color from pure white to pure black. The white ones actually look like baby polar bears when they are pups.

Last night I strapped on a 50-pound pack of gear and this lovely pair of snowshoes and hiked–in the complete, pitch dark–for 2 miles to spend the night in a yurt. That’s right, a yurt. Clearly, there is more of a story there–which will be blogged (on heidikins.com) as soon as I have a shower, and a hamburger, and a nap. Not necessarily in that order.
It’s Cup Week here in Auckland, so we donned our frocks and fascinators and hit the infield at Ellerslie. The Black Seeds (alas no Brett McKenzie cameo that I was hoping for) and Thim Phim entertained us, and we managed to walk away with more money than we arrived with. So it was a great success! Only thing was between the torrential downpours and the scorching sunshine we had to watch the races on the big screen because we managed to nab a spot with a big brolly. Thems the breaks…
the end of my eldest daughters 3rd birthday we went to the bulls domain to watch an awesome band (her very first concert *bless) this is me and my youngest and her wee toes 🙂
these are the feet of the birthday girl and her best friends dancing the night away…
it was an amazing day for all…..now time to go catch some zzzzzzzzzzz’s

Back at Angel in us coffee shop again for lunch and a sparkling apple juice. The place was almost empty.
I really like the upstairs seating area. It is comfortable and nice. I suppose it would feel different if it was full.
The sandwich isn’t that great except for the bread they use. I love it!!
The lights that you see in the reflection in the far left mirror actually have wings on the bulbs.
Angel lights? Kinda cute.

this is the beginning of my daughter indie’s 3rd birthday cake. i swore it was going to be a stressfree (for me!) lead up to her party…and it has been until now! the fricken chocolate flowers and leaves i made keep melting because it’s so muggy tonight…aaarrrrgh! she is having a neverneverland party tomorrow because she is tinkerbelle crazy 🙂 i even have a fairy dress and wings…yuss!

Today, after work, I decided to head to the mall for a bit of retail therapy. One of the things that I found (and kind of still find) hard to get used to here in New Zealand was the fact that, except for Thursdays and Fridays, malls close at 5:30pm. This means that if you work full-time you have little or no time to go shopping – some would argue that that’s a good thing and, in some days, I tend to agree. However, it can be very inconvenient. Anyway, since today was Thursday, it was what kiwis call “late night shopping at the mall” (try not to laugh but “late night” here means that the mall closes at 9pm! Yes, I know… go ahead and laugh).
Somehow, while looking for a pair of comfortable pants to wear on a hiking mission this weekend (weather allowing), I ended up leaving the mall with zero hiking pants, two skirts and one satin top. Oh well, it happens. Right?
