bridge art

31 Mar

It feels like forever since I’ve been on here. Work has been busy & it’s getting to the end of the semester so I’m starting final projects for my classes.

I went for a walk over lunch yesterday and came across some stunning art underneath the bridge!

believe it or not, a containerful of converse all-stars seemed to have fallen off a truck and into the possession of Netto, a discount grocery store chain here in DK – so we got these babies for half price!

these are sabin’s – and they’re maroon.

spring is a good time for new chucks!

27 march 2011 // she’s not even sorry!

27 Mar

the kitty’s latest obsession involves unrolling toilet paper in the bathroom, dragging it all out to the lounge and then shredding it to pieces. If I was a cat, I’d probably find this heaps of fun too. But I’m the person who been picking up pieces of toilet paper off the rug pretty much all weekend long so I guess you can see how I’m failing to appreciate the fun of it.

shoe per diem march 21, 2011 – indoors

26 Mar

< … these old-fashined pink lace socks from Noa Noa (that looked so promising in package) looked flattering. Turned out to be a very unpleasant, bright-pink-flesh-due-to-too-much-sun-hue when worn. Not one of my best buys. Ah well, on lots of sale, not a catastrophy, just mildly annoying.

shoe per diem march 21, 2011 – outdoors

26 Mar

There’s still heaps of snow in certain places (like my garden), but today offered such wonderful, mild winds with lots of promise of spring and I’m thinking it’s probably time to let the superfluff winter mittens get a much deserved summer-hibernation. They have served me oh so well during these past five months.

Today was, as is usual these days, a two kinds of El Naturalistas-wearing-day, outdoors boots and sadly, no matter shoes, indoors or outdoors… >

23 March 2011 // in the dark

24 Mar

A crap cell phone photo to mark the day Stacey and I ran our first 16km! Taken by the port exactly 8km into our run when, after running for 1 hour (yeah, we’re slow), we stopped to stretch and catch our breath.

a giant ball of yarn

21 Mar

shoe per diem, originally uploaded by julochka.

the leather mocassins i wear around the house, but really, this is an excuse to take a picture of the giant ball of finger knitting sabin has done over about a 3-year period. there was one point she was quite literally even doing it in her sleep. it’s apparently a very relaxing activity, but what can you really do with it? i like to think of it as yarn storage.

shoe per diem march 12, 2011 – vaxholm visit

20 Mar

It was a grand sunny day with blue skies, but oh the strong winds made it not so pleasant as one would have thought.

Also apparently Saturday in off-season small-town Vaxholm – read more here – means no cafés open. The planned late breakfast turned into a very, very late lunch elsewhere some hours later instead. Such things makes me really very grumpy…

Before hunger striked we had a walk around town. This is overlooking the Vaxholm fortress, now conference facilities.

Me: El Naturalista Iggdrasil winered swirl boots. Purple lace socks from Noa Noa
M: vegan friendly man shoes from Deichmann, green stripey socks from Swedish brand Happy Socks

Ah yes

19 Mar

Me and vera participated in another run which had us up at stupid o’clock. But it did mean I was able to catch the high tide and go for a glorious swim after!

15 march 2011 stranger’s shoes and a novella

15 Mar

i think this is the third pair of abandoned shoes i post here on spd. i seem to be finding a lot of pairs randomly left in parks and streets lately. this pair of converse was left in a park near home for ages, socks and all. we were there for quite a while and the park seemed deserted and no one came to get them.

I sat on a bench near the abandoned converse for a while, reading a new book i received from a friend. i’m loving these end-of-summer afternoons and dreading the colder times when 7pm will mean dark skies and no reading outside.

shoe per diem march 10, 2011 – olivegreen and purple

14 Mar

shoe per diem march 10, 2011 -, originally uploaded by piaktw.

My always indoor shoes at the place where I spend my weekdays: the olive green El Naturalista Tesela mary-janes. The only thing one can do to perk things up shoewise these long winter days (spring any day now!) is having different pretty socks.

I love these purple lace socks from Noa Noa, bought a bunch at the winter sales and now I wish I had gotten even more of them (because socks have a tendency to not last very long…). They’re not nylons but thicker, very stretchy, very comfy and rather warm.

And I wish they came in tights with long enough legs, I really loath the too many tights one gets that end up being given away due to too short legs.

shoe per diem march 2, 2011 – in magic socks

14 Mar

At the hairdresser, yes she is wearing my magic socks, or rather socks made by me. She’s my best customer for sure. It’s always nice to see her, for all sorts of reasons.

Running with lots of people suck. Never again.

shoe per diem march 1, 2011 – the wicked witch of the east

13 Mar

With having found a most happy skirt at Swedish designer Gudrun Sjödénpreviously mentioned in autumn post – I’ve realized than mixing dots, stripes and squares on a weekday makes things feel a bit better. So I’m trying to do that as much as possible. On this particular day I also had a black-and-white stripey long-sleeved shirt. Both shirt and socks from Ms Sjödén too. But I would like to state that by no means whatsoever am I a great fan of hers anyway. It just happened to be like that. On that day.

These stripey socks makes me look like the Wicked Witch of the East. Difference is that I’m kind to little beings and I have no intention to be crushed by a falling house. Touch wood.

Indoors shoes these days, on weekdays are the olivegreen El Naturalista Tesela mary-janes. Can’t wait until one can actually wear them outdoors again too!

13 march 2011 // the road was too small

13 Mar

for the ~70,000 other pairs of feet that entered this run. stacey and i ended up getting frustrated at all the walkers taking up the runners’ side of the road and there was a lot of pushing and shoving involved. still, the weather was gorgeous and a run is a run so we’re happy to tick this one off the list!

shoe per diem feb 28, 2011 – kismet & jojo

13 Mar

I first spotted photos of some adorable wee needlefelted creatures on Flickr. Then I saw that Julie had snatched one of them (of course, who else? And that I mean in a positive way) and began semi-stalking Kit Lane’s Etsy shop. In vain.

Until Julie (thank you!) made me aware of a little fella being up for adoption, Kismet with four ears and bringer of good fortune. It was destiny, he was mine! And then as luck would have it, appeared Jojo, terrier brown and sad faced. They travelled together and showed up in my mailbox on the last day of February. Too precious for words. Exquisitely made. They make my heart sing.

Needless to say, I couldn’t resist when Kismet and Jojo demanded (yes they did, they really did!) more friends of their kind. As luck would have it, there are now two more little fellas to be travelling to Sweden. Julie, you are to blame. Or, as I prefer to see it, to be thanked. A lot.

Here with the winered/red El Naturalista swirl boots.

My two flatties and I went to Meow on Edward Street on Thursday night for a couple of drinks. It was super retro, and reminded me of exactly what my house looked like when I went to look at the open home. Very nostalgic.

Today is my parents wedding anniversary and Dad is away at his Boys Weekend so my Mama Bear and I hung out instead. We went to St Mary of the Angels where they got married 29 years ago. It’s a gorgeous church and we were there at the exact time their ceremony was taking place all those years ago.

11 march 2011 // red

12 Mar

Some days are just weird. This was one. I attended a funeral in the afternoon and went to a birthday party in the evening. Circle of life and all that, I guess, but it still felt a bit strange.

Anyway, for the funeral, we were requested to wear red and green rather than the usual black. I didn’t really fancy the whole Christmas tree look so chose to compromise with red wedges and a dress that had black, red and some green.

Our feijoa tree is spewing up fruit and I thought I’d better put it to good use in a crumble. It is in the oven right now, soon to be gobbled up with lots of cream! Nom Nom Nom!

bunny slippers

bunny slippers, originally uploaded by julochka.

10/3.2011 – shoe per diem

this is an explanation of why there’s hay in my house. actually, where i’m taking these photos is out in a covered, but unheated terrace on the back of the house (sadly, it is arguably the best room in the house) – it’s where the bunnies were kept before they got their new cage, hence the evidence of bunny hay (and poo if you look closely). it never got cleaned up because it’s been too cold out there!

here, samba, the world’s best bunny, brings new meaning to bunny slipper.

Day in / day out

Despite this week completely turning to custard this morning I took comfort from the fact that no matter what happens every day the sun comes up and goes down again, and life goes on.  Pretty deep thoughts for 7am.

another running post – but with snow

10 Mar

Oh, how I wish I had a beautiful, warm-weather photo with a sunset to share…I can only offer a shoe photo of me stretching near snow after my run. Still, I ran – not very far, but it was without pain, so i’ll take it.

Way to go Vera & Stacey on your 9.5K run!!!

Oh how I love the sun

9 Mar

On another run (9.5km), we ran away from the sun down this strip of road next to the motorway:

After which we had dinner and went to a Fringe Festival show which was fantastic! We sat middle front and center and were forced to become part of the show, at one stage I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. The actor was amazing and the show was entertaining the whole way through!

vintage brown italian-made boots that i got new on a fabulous sale in bloomingdale’s years and years ago (like more years than i’d like to admit, hence calling them vintage).

shown here in a very dirty mirror in my terrace paired with stripey socks, blue tights and my fab new navy blue dress. bring on spring, baby!

redoing this because i accidentally uploaded the wrong version of the photo to flickr and then stupid wordpress couldn’t handle the pressure of that and just replace it. *sigh*

5 march 2011 // singing in the rain

7 Mar

some of my friends and i had bought tickets for this outdoors music festival months in advance and had been dreaming about a nice picnic in the sun for ages… then festival day came along and it turned out to be a miserable wet one, with rain and mud everywhere. We still went along but had to crack out the good old waterproof boots for the occasion – something I never thought I’d have to do in summer. One positive thing about that day, other than seeing my friends: it was a good excuse to wear my bright pink trench coat!

shoe per diem, feb 26, 2011 – new glasses

6 Mar

I picked up my new pair of glasses today – read more about it – and here they are with me sporting (due to the unfortunate incident with my red lovelies) what are my very first El Naturalista winter boots, Iggdrasil (of course) swirl boots in winered-tibet red. Swirl being visible from side only. They’re still a great pair of boots, but admittedly I’m not as in boots-love as with my red ones… Grey socks from Noa Noa.

My new glasses though, I <3, very nerdy professor-like, many thumbs up for that.

5/3.2011 – fabulous skullie boots

5 Mar

again with the shoe per diem coveting. these fabulouso sparkly skullie boots were on sale, but again with the 900DKK. a bit too special-occasion to invest quite that much. but i loved both them AND that wonderful felt ball rug behind them!

did you ever find yourself alone in an elevator with one of your good friends, a camera, and an inability to behave? that pretty much sums up this picture.

shoe per diem feb 19, 2011 – broken

4 Mar

This is one very sad me reporting of a bad bad zipper problem in my lovable El Naturalista red boots. I’ve been wearing them pretty much every day all winter long, with thicker socks as well as thinner ones, without any problems. They’ve been heavenly. Suddenly this. And before I even got my foot out of the boots… panic.

If you remember there was a serious zipper problem with the right foot on the first pair of these boots I bought, but luckily they had another pair so I could change them.

Of course I should make a complaint in the shop, to make them change the zipper, just haven’t been able to get myself do it… Yet. I’m probably one of their most frequent customer (hrm), it shouldn’t be a problem. But for now I’m just sad. And wearing the other boots instead. Which I somehow can’t feel exactly THAT much enthusiasm for as these perky red ones…

My friday is casual and tasty

4 Mar

image

I made sweetcorn fritters for lunch on the sandwich press at work for lunch today, with my not-so-secret ingredients chillies and basil. There was also an earthquake at lunchtime but I’m not too worried about the ‘big one’ hitting Wellington, because as you can see below, the aircon unit is going to get me first. Normally I can forget about the tonne of metal hanging over my head, but with all the wind and tectonic activity over the past couple of days it’s making me think about writing a will.

i want! green comforts

i want! green comforts, originally uploaded by julochka.

shoe per diem – 3/3.2011 – again with showing the shoes i want.

they’re a bit like el naturalistas – a new (to me at least) danish brand called green comfort – they’re bragging about being eco-friendly. but they’re 900DKK ($168), so i gave it a miss for now.

28 February 2011 // under the australian sun

3 Mar

I spent three days across the Tasman sea for a conference and it was absolute madness. I ended up only taking one SPD shot in the entire three days, during the only run I managed to do while I was there.

The place we stayed at was fantastic, right in front of the beach. Sadly, the views were pretty much the only good thing about this running session, and all the rest of the conditions ticked the wrong boxes: I got more drunk than I ever had the night before, got about one hour (if that) of sleep, was wide awake at 6:15AM so decided to put my running shoes on and head out the door, forgot to take water with me and started feeling dizzy and dehydrated (especially after all the alcohol) and even got lost trying to find my way back to the hotel.

You don’t need to tell me I suck. I’ve been telling myself that since then, don’t worry.

paudecanela

running again

3 Mar

I feel like I’ve missed a lot on Shoe Per Diem since I’ve been gone. Not a lot to report on this end…I was sick, my son was sick, the weather was borderline apocalyptic…super warm, then tons of snow, then high winds, then a thunderstorm and lots of rain.

BUT, I’m starting to be able to run without pain during and tenderness afterwards. Although it was a very short run, my run today was the best run i’ve had post-injury. I was a little worried I might try to run too fast and re-injure myself, but turns out I’m completely and totally out of shape, which keeps me at nice slow pace.

Hope all is well

-Megan

Beautiful day

2 Mar

Yesterday was the first day of march. One of my new years resolutions was to run every day in march, for at least 15 minutes. So get used to seeing a few of these photos. On another note, I just cracked four of my toes playing human foose ball at o week at work. I kicked another player in the shins and wasnt wearing any shoes. Dooche bag!

Time out

1 Mar

A much needed break was had over the weekend, first up I ate myself sick on the sweet grapes at a friends parents house up north, then worked my way through four country pubs and their characters on the way to a campsite where we slept with kiwi running around outside the tent
