we had a halloween party today. and again, i think this might be about the tights (from accessorize). they’re some no-name boots. the heels need replacing. the leather’s super soft tho’, so i do like them. i made a rather fine witch, even if i do say so myself…

Making the final marathon preparations. Only two more days, but I’m leaving for Washington, DC tomorrow morning. Lots of packing to do. But first thing first, my son has a Halloween party tonight.
Hopefully I won’t be meeting the grim reaper on my run. Then again, the marathon is on Halloween, so who knows?!
Crazy week, and I’ve missed it here. Am hoping to be back full force next week.

these are actually my colleague’s wolfords. but i am SO getting some. we’ll have to text to be sure we’re not wearing them on the same day. they rock. totally rock. i almost wanted to lick her legs. and that’s totally unlike me.completely.

My team at work won a $200 voucher for Foxglove so today we had an extended lunch and spent it all, and then some. It’s the coolest place, with a crazy Narnia wardrobe that takes you into a different part of the bar. The food was a-ma-zing and the wine was so tasty I felt like a little afternoon nap. Here is a pic of the decor on the outside where the smoking/fresh air booths are.
Last night I caught up with the awesome chick Slies I met in San Fran, along with Renee, Deanne and Annie. After geting through 3 bottles of wine we headed over to Osteria Del Toro, where Amba works, for cocktails. If you’re ever in Wellington you have to go here, it’s amazing! They have the coolest table and ashtray here, see…
saw these shoes in a window. restrained from buying them, but only barely. will request them from husband for christmas in an effort not to just buy everything i want immediately (see recent macbook air purchase for reference)….the shop is called UNO Denmark. i could have bought an entire new wardrobe there, but restrained myself to new tights. which i will show you soon…

There’s nothing quite like rounding off a little birthday get-away with walking the streets, browsing the shops, sampling the vegetarian food and drinks on offer in one of one’s favourite cities.
The weather was autumn fantastic, sunny, blue skies, crisp air. Denmark’s capital Copenhagen never disappoints (right, Julie?). (Well, but for the rather horrific traffic/reconstruction/building sites everywhere situation this time then…)
El Naturalista Tesela Miduna Oxfords in Rioja winered. teamed up with that favourite Argyle socks in pink/red from Burlington.
Had hope to rekindle with the Little Mermaid. Alas not seen on her usual rock, I guess she’s still on the road with the World Expo 2010 and all that.
A sunny afternoon with my friends. Good food, laughs and memories…

It’s just gone Labour Weekend here, where we shake off the winter blues and get our first sunburns of the year. I had an awesome time, kicking off on Friday night with drinks, fireworks and laughs with good friends outside on the balcony:
Then Saturday I caught the bus up north to stay with my friends Amy and Paul, who were hosting a hangi (traditional Maori way of cooking food in the ground) for- wait for it-… 90 people! There went the relaxing lie on the beach weekend I had in my head, suddenly I was immigrant labour. However the entire process and weekend was great fun, and really rewarding, and I managed to fit in a swim in the ocean and the chance to get my inaugural sunburn.
Digging of the pit for the food
This is what a quarter of 20kg of potatoes and 10kg of kumera peelings look like
After all that peeling it was time for a dip.
Sunday was hangi day, and it all went off with only one hitch… when high tide happened on the beach, the pit filled with water, at the same time that we wanted to start cooking… waiting for high tide to recede and putting some more sand in the hole seemed to remedy the situation!
Monday morning shone light on the mess 90 people can create, but it was also a beautiful day, so once we had cleaned up, we could relax in this:

Amongst all the lovely little details that was my birthday were two favourites -
1) meeting this quirky gargoyle at sweet garden – nursery Tirups Örtagård (herbary). I love gargoyles and I sure wouldn’t mind takings this fella home with me, letting him out of is chains. Sadly his price was way over my budget (talking in El Naturalista-terms, about 10 pairs) so not for me alas.
Shoe du jour – a befitting inauguration of a birthday gift, El N Tesela Oxfords in winered. Very happy.
2) walking the deserted beaches of Kämpinge sea baths. That’s one thing I truly miss in life, the proximity of ocean beaches. They’re wonderful, especially off-season. For walking, letting the dog run, finding peace and inspiration, fresh air and new energy.
Shoe du jour 2 - for walking and sandy encounters on I changed to El N Iggdrasil swirl boots. M is wearing black “man shoes”. Not nearly as snazzy and sensible as El Naturalistas of course, but strangely he seems happy enough. Even on a sandy beach. On October 25th.

On a wee (desperately needed) get-away to my favourite province of Sweden, the southernmost Scania (Skåne) I wore the comfy pair of past winter favourite boots. El Naturalista (nah…) olive-musgro green Iggdrasil swirl boots (and grey lace socks from NoaNoa).
This day held a re-visit to beautiful site Ale stones (a Swedish Stonehenge). Which offers beautiful ocean views, great walks and is so much much nicer visiting off-season (not heaps of tourists and children gone wild climbing the fascinating megalithic monument).
This post is a little late but I finally managed to get the pic uploaded.
For our Canadian Thanksgiving (second Sunday&Monday in October) my friend Danielle and I put together a little dinner. It took some effort to scrounge up some of the parts (the turkey especially) but we managed. All of that for 4 people.
Turkey with gravy, ham, mashed potatoes, broccoli, corn, mushrooms, salad, bread (from an Arabic bakery in Itaewon - the best bread I’ve found here), and of course some wine.

The bathroom of my home here sucks. It isn’t heated, the ceiling’s only about 1 inch taller than me, there is no sink, and there is no light. The door to the bathroom is just off my tiny hallway kitchen. The door has a window in it to let light from the kitchen into the bathroom. I have two pairs of shower shoes - one for actually showering in and one to keep dry for when the floor and other shoes are wet. The kitchen floor has heating in it but the living room and bathroom don’t so the heat will all pretty much disappear. The bedroom, which has a door just off the kitchen (behind where I’m standing on the left side) is heated and there is a window between the bedroom and the living room. Strange set up.
I’m not looking forward to the winter.

as I write this, all of my shoe boxes (some of them pictured above) are still sitting in the lounge instead of their usual place in the closet. we’re tiling the bedroom floor, which meant everything had to get out of there, shoe boxes included.
in the mean time, took a quick break to declare bbq season officially opened with a barbecue at friend’s house, for her birthday. I decided to wear a brand new pair of wedges to celebrate the occasion.

Today has been super cool, I met my newest cousin Will who was born on Friday at 10am. I’m the eldest of the generation and he’s the freshest, 27 yrs and 2 months between us. Sadly I didn’t get a good pic of his little booties though. Afterwards I went to hang out with Jess (one of my other 25 cousins) her two kids Ava and Milan and Will’s sister Vienna. I’m Aunty Luci to the little ones since I’m that much older than them, and I tell you what… it gets bloody confusing coming from such a large family sometimes. Anyway this is me about to be accosted by my nieces and nephew on the trampoline, happy days!
Did my last weekend training run today…10 miles/16km. Was one of my favorite solo runs I’ve had in quite awhile. The weather was little cold, but it was a beautiful run since all the leaves have changed color. I ran the last mile extra slow, as I wasn’t ready for my run to be over.
Here is my favorite tree along my route. This picture doesn’t do it justice….
Next week I’ll run for 30 minutes on Tuesday, 20 minutes on Thursday and then my marathon is on Sunday. I’m feeling kind of sad that training season is over.

I love wandering around the streets to see what I can see. It seems that here in Korea there are always interesting or strange things everywhere. There are a few different buildings with mirrored outsides which make for some fun photos.
I love trying different cafes and restaurants I see everywhere. In Apgujeong there are so many to choose from.
We decided to stop for a pre-dinner drink and snack at De Chocolate Coffee. For a cafe named Chocolate the iced chocolate was very strange tasting, like imitation chocolate. The hot vanilla milk was great, though. The chocolate tart was okay but I think I would have preferred the chocolate mousse cake.
A month or two ago a new restaurant opened called Rabat (the writing outside is only in Korean so I didn’t really think of it until the Moroccan bf and I were wandering around and saw it that Rabat is the capital of Morocco.) We decided to check it out.

For the fall picnic my school took the kindys to Seoul’s Children’s Grand Park, a pathetic excuse for a zoo. The kids of course loved it but I felt so bad for the animals shut up in such small enclosures. First we set up our picnic area and then went for a walk around the zoo area. I had to laugh when the very first animal in the “Ferocious Animals” section was the elephant. In the birds section there is an upstairs rest area with windows overlooking the birds.
After seeing the animals it was time to eat. The teachers had kimbap rolls. The kids had what ever their parents packed; mostly different types of kimbap.
The kids were always offering me little bits of their food as I walked around. That could be great and it could also be not such a great idea since a lot of the things had misc. stuff in them such as fish eggs or what not.

We have this thing in my oldest and dearest group of friends, that we all love Ra Booties. What are Ra Booties? Delightful little knitted booties for big people which you can wear around the house, to bed, on the couch, anywhere inside at all. They are called Ra Booties because Ra was the mother of one friend who used to knit them for us all. Even though Ra Booties were around before Ra (I remember my friend Oliver’s mum was the first knitter of these when we were about 13), but we still can them Ra Booties, not Oliver’s Mums Booties. I guess it has a better ring.
The lovely Renee who I got to hang out with last week in Wellington, knitted me a pair for my birthday (beginning of June), and I got them in the mail today after she found them again. Maybe a little late for the season, but these will be well worn in the winter months next year. Go the Ra Booties!

Snap a picture.
My kitchen sink faucet started dripping and that drip became a constant stream. I went to the hardware store, bought an adjustable wrench, and tried to fix the problem myself.
I failed. Miserably.
I tried to fiddle with it, but made it worse. Upon realizing that putting pressure on it would make it stop, I did what needed to be done….I put my knife block (with all the knives in it) on top of it.
And it worked.
I’m now on the mad hunt for a handy man, as I’m sure I’m going to need to use my hot water in the sink at some point.

Vera and I went for another run yesterday, and the thing which got us through was the thought of the cold bottle of wine I had sitting in the fridge at home, waiting for us. We needed it you see because we mapped our run on www.mapmyrun.com and had only done 5 kms. Which felt like more. Until we realised it was in miles, and we in fact had done 8km, including a nasty mountain climb. Hooray! Four more of those suckers and we have reached our goal of 12 km and can retire to drinking wine all day. Now there’s something to aim for!

it’s a pleasure to be here today, presenting myself. I’m from Brazil and love flats and ballerines. Hope you like.

Have just got back from a week visiting family and friends in Feilding where I am from. Did lots, here are the shoe per diem photos, although on reflection maybe this should be called sock per diem…
This is in the airport on the way down home. Penguin classics are so pretty, was tempted to buy a few then remembered I have a book back-log I should get through first…
Me and my Ma went for a wee trip to Whanganui, which some people make fun of but I like because it is quaint and has the best second-hand shop in the whole wide world (pretty much the only reason for taking a trip there in the first place, but it is still quaint okay.) And contrary to my above comment, I bought three books.
I chilled out with Jimmy by his fire. He was kind enough to share a little bit with me.
Saw Emma Kate and Honor Violet, more to come from Emma’s camera (ahem).
Played with Rouge the only dog in the whole wide world I like and am thinking of cloning her so I can have some of her lovely sweet nature. She is my friend Renee’s parents dog, and I was there for a big dinner of spaghetti and meatballs. We then used the left over meatballs to teach Rouge how to go in and out of the cat flap.
I then went down to Wellington to stay the night with Renee and her husband Brian and catch up with all my lovely friendlies who live down there. Me and Renee passed Friday afternoon drinking wine on her balcony overlooking the harbour.
And then a group of us went out for a BYO dinner, of which a bottle of red was a casualty… (This was nothing to do with me BTW)…

Quite a glorious autumn day today. Which perhaps offered the last possibility for an outdoor Swedish ” fika ” (coffee break) this season. At Café – Bakery Gateau, in pretty suburb Bromma.
Shoe per diem were the olive green El Naturalista Tesela Mary-Janes. This time teamed up with pink/brown striped socks from Sock Dreams (which is an irresistable candystore for grown up girls, don’t go there…! … Right, don’t say I didn’t warn you).
Yes I do <3 the socks, but they’re really too chunky to look great in shoes like these. Perfect boots socks though.
The first week at the new job really ended on a high, with us journos being taken out for a fun day sponsored by another company. The “amazing race” kind of event took me all the way out of auckland for a hot lap in a V8 supercar. Now I don’t know a thing about racing cars other than they make a really loud noise… but it was still fun! And note how, even completely unintentionally, the red wedges matched my racing car!

I’ve kept busy these past couple of days with:
Cleaning. My son was home sick from school, which meant I was home healthy from work. Amazing how productive one can be when they have an unexpected day off and can’t leave the house.
Lunching at a dive bar with my lunch BFF. Turns out when you wear high heel, shiny yellow shoes (even though they look goldish below, I assure you they’re shiny yellow) to a dive bar for lunch people take notice.
And last but certainly not least…running! I got my third pair of running shoes this training season. These are the ones that I’m going to wear for the remainder of my training and my marathon. I took them out for a quick test run today.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

As Vera said, Monday after her first day at work we went for a run (we have entered a 12km run in January, now we just need to train), and then for dinner. A much healthier option than going for a wine and then dinner… anyway after two dinners for some (ahem Vera) we went for coffee and cake and the couch matched my new shoes. Choice!

Monday was my first day at the new job and it ended up being quite a long – and fun – day. After all the stress/excitement that comes with first days, I met up with the lovely Stacey for our first run together (in which she proved to me that I am not nearly as fit as she is and I really need to work on those uphills).
After that, we met up with two other friends for dinner on good old K Road, where we ate waaaay more than we needed to and chatted for a while. Not a bad way to end the day, I tell ya.
Snapped the pic above while waiting to cross the lights and while I envied Stacey’s new shoes.

Relaxing day in the park along with another 100+ people who all got together to celebrate 10/10/10 (and yes we did kick start celebrations at 10am). Note we even took themed cupcakes (decorated in a bit of a hurry, just before leaving home but people ate them so fast I don’t think anyone noticed that the tens weren’t all that perfect).

It was a wonderful and unseasonably warm weekend and lasting into today.
I have a feeling it’s going to be awhile until these are featured on shoe per diem again. Unless, that is, I wear them around the house or to make a mad dash to start my car in the morning. Oh, but now I have a garage, so hopefully I won’t need to start my car when it gets really, really cold….burrrrrrr.

Met a friend I see too rarely for lunch at one classic Stockholm café, Sturekatten. It was lovely to see her (one of those rare people that actually listens, hears and not only me-me-me talks), the food was good and the service ladies grumpy as always (they’re not the same as when I used to frequent the place when in high school, but they certainly are from the same crabby stock).
I wore yellow El Naturalista Tesela Mary-Janes (I’ve decided they can be concidered a tad autumnal in colour really). Grey lace socks from Noa Noa. Friend wore black boots of unknown brand. She asked me to make up a flashy sounding brand, sadly I’m feeling less than inspired with such matters at the moment, they seemed comfy and she wore them well. That will do.
There are some things in life I’m not the least bit interested in spending money on. Like vacuum cleaners. So I’ve always had hand-me-downs. After the last one had suffered from two mini-fires during the past few months it was time to say a final goodbye.
So, now I am the first time owner of a brand new vacuum. A snazzy red one. The vacuum cleaners’ equivalent to a flash sportscar. I took it for a first spin around the house today. Its suction power being great, its sound being not so. Actually kind of jetplane-landing-in-living- room deafening. One wouldn’t expect that much noise from such a small and handy appliance. But it’s red. And it sucks good. And there are earplugs.
Shoes du jour – the Birkenstock slippers model Dorian, pattern Brokenhearts grey. With fabulastic Argyle socks from Burlington.
Found some more pics of recent activities… I was a cuddly cook and made cupcakes with Kerry, my little brother’s lovely lady:
This is us with the finished products:
It was also Kerry’s 22nd birthday so we went out for all you can play laser tag and arcade games. I’m 15 years above the target demographic but it was totally choice!!
Went to the mountain, where the lovely Miss Bailey snapped a pic for me cos I was driving:
But I still managed to get one of my sexy socks & thermals against the super beautiful blue sky:
And this is me out west at Whakapapa, a new experience for me, but one I’d definitely like to repeat again soon:

m’s new car has arrived. it’s lovely and red (my only adamant saying in the matter for obvious reasons) and called for a pair of befitting shoes.
thus inauguration of the last pair of german shoe sales one; el naturalista purple duna mary-janes. with magenta socks from swedish brand filippa k.
ah, the shoes may be lovely, but they hurt like hell, the bunion area (which i never experience problems with) of feet are still awfully sore. i’m guessing it’s not the higher heels but the way the fitting is constructed over that area. darn it! i can’t see myself using them anytime soon again. and when i do i’ll have a pair of rescue shoes close at hand.
there’s a swedish saying “vill man vara fin får man lida pin” ~ ” wanna look nice, have to endure pain” which i completely hate. one really shouldn’t have to compromise comfort over style or vice versa. and definitely not when wearing the el naturalista brand. so now i hope the whole ordeal was just a break-in-thing… i’m so not up for purple pain, no matter in how pretty package it comes.
i’ve been a bit useless with posting since i got back from holiday but here is a quick rundown of what’s been happening of late
Tina the Turtle came out of hibernation in the garden. To be honest i thought she was dead but apparently she actually was just sleeping.
it’s getting lighter so i can sit on the bench and watch the sun go down over the ocean
it’s definitely getting warmer so i can lax out on my deck with a cuppa and the weekend paper
Went out to Makara beach to see what was out there. was the windiest place i’ve ever been!
And I fed some big arse eels over in the Ohariu Valley. Cheeky bastards tried to eat my toes!

Now that days are officially longer, I had to abandon my “but it’s dark and I don’t like the dark” excuse and can go for slightly longer runs after work. In theory, that means I’ve been living a healthier life but I guess the two burgers I ate after this particular run on Monday kind of made the whole run pointless. Anyway…

I love that when the weather is nice here, you can just sit outside a local Family Mart or 7-eleven and drink beer, coolers or soju or what ever else they have that suits your fancy.
Even Hopie was enjoying himself (and little bits of chips and such that were being fed to him under the table). ^.~

First Official Jandal Worthy Day, and I knew I had to spend it all inside studying for exams this week. So I got up early (ish, for a Sunday) and took a stroll into the village for a muffin and a cup of coffee for breakie. And now I am taking another break to upload this. But nevermind, I have been doing lots (sort of) of good stuff between now and then and am quite satisfied that this afternoon is a bit cooler than this morning, so I was right to go wandering earlier. Anyway, since I am procrastinating from studying right now, I could possibly go on writing forever and ever. Do you know I’m going to buy a ukulele next payday and learn a few songs in time for Christmas. An instrument is the perfect procrastination devise, as is spring cleaning, which I may just go and do now. Have a happy Sunday!

On this World Vegetarian Day the sun shone and there were blue skies (after a very misty morning) in Stockholm. Naturally one would have expected nothing less.
Today was also the day the Stockholm underground – home of the world’s longest art exhibition – turned 60 years old.
On this day of many celebrations I wore my trustworthy purple El Naturalista Iggdrasil Oxfords, teamed up with a pair of dark grey lacy socks from Noa Noa. Favourite shoe brand + favourite clothing brand = poptastic.
And yes, one can really, really tell it’s autumn of no return now here…
Two different coffees, two different days, two different seating locations, one Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Apgujeong, Seoul.
Both wonderful.
